Anish & Shivangi

Camino de Santiago

Anish and Shivangi are taking on the Camino de Santiago

Six years ago, Shivangi and Anish met the extraordinary parents of children with dementia and came face to face with the harsh reality that these children are often neglected, systematically excluded even from the services and care they desperately need.

Since then, Shivangi has worked with what she calls 'the best team in the world' to change how these children are seen, treated and cared for. It is a privilege to put their cause in front of the world and the response has been nothing short of remarkable. Research is being invested in, pathways to appropriate support are being found, and families are feeling more seen than ever before.

But there is so much more to do. Fifty per cent of children with dementia will die before they turn 10. Most lose their ability to walk, to speak, to eat, to play before this disease takes their lives. All the while, their parents must watch this cruelty unfold.

After many years, Anish and Shivangi are going on an adventure together (one that doesn't involve children, dogs, renovations or moving continents)! This one asks us to put one foot in front of the other, 100 kilometres over six days, walking the Camino de Santiago.

Much like any great trek, Childhood Dementia Initiative's work takes resilience and grit. Change happens one step at a time.

Will you consider making a donation? We cover our own flights and travel costs, so every dollar you give goes directly to the cause. Together, we are certain that one day we will cure childhood dementia  and until then, we can make sure no family faces these atrocities alone.
