Meet some of the people fundraising for children with dementia

The Inca Trail

In October 2025, 20 trekkers set themselves the challenge to climb 4,200m in 4 days to reach the magnificent Machu Picchu.

What they didn't expect was rain for most of the way, with conditions working against them. But through the showers, they kept sharing their story with updates along the route, and smashed their $60,000 goal, raising over $70,000!

TCS Sydney Marathon 2026

On 30th August 2026, a team of fundraisers took on the Sydney Marathon.

Michael tackled 42.2km with a walk-run strategy, and said anyone who sets their mind to it can do it. Kristen ran for her son Kye, who lives with childhood dementia, her advice to other fundraisers is to have fun, back yourself and spread awareness along the way. Al thinks of his kids Isla and Jude with every step, and wants to see a future where children have access to earlier diagnosis, better treatments and ultimately, cures. And Bridie's ran for Orla, and says the more people who know about childhood dementia, the better.

Four different reasons. One shared goal: a future where every family affected by childhood dementia gets the support they need.

Together they raised over $50,000!

Steps for Skye

Skye has Sanfilippo syndrome, a form of childhood dementia. Teghan, with fellow carer Bree, has cared for her for almost 12 years.

In 2020, they challenged 15 people to walk 15,000 steps a day for a month. 6 years on, Steps for Skye has raised over $135,000 for research, care and advocacy - for all kids with childhood dementia, not just Skye.

FACE it

People, schools, hospitals and workplaces from 13 countries registered to take part in FACE it last year, sharing scroll-stopping photos of their painted faces on social media to help make childhood dementia impossible to ignore.

While the full reach of all photos shared can't be measured, campaign content published through Childhood Dementia Initiative channels alone reached more than one million people across social media and contributed to a noticeable spike in website engagement.

For the first time, Childhood Dementia Day also incorporated a 40-hour matched giving period. Enabled by a long-term supporter, donations were doubled, giving donors the opportunity to extend the impact of their contributions. During this window, a total of $105,210 was donated to help children with dementia.
