I'm raising awareness and funds for children with dementia.

By Emma-Jade Burgess Join Me

Tragically, hundreds of thousands of children across the world suffer from dementia. It’s caused by more than 100 life-limiting neurodegenerative disorders, many of which are not yet understood. In Australia, a baby is born every 3 days with a childhood dementia disorder from which they will die, most likely before their 18th birthday. Before they die, they live with chronic, increasingly severe symptoms. Childhood dementia causes a similar number of deaths in Australia to childhood cancer for patients aged 0-14 years. Yet most people are unaware of childhood dementia. Correspondingly, finding care and support is extremely difficult for families. Research is scant and there are no cures or treatments. Your donation supports ongoing, urgent work to accelerate research, improve care, and to make childhood dementia a health priority. Thank you for your generosity.

Walk with Duncan for Childhood Dementia

Friday 10th Jul
Walk with Duncan to  awareness and funds for Childhood Dementia.

Four years ago, Duncan received a dementia diagnosis — news that changed life for him and his family. Since then, they have learned that dementia is not only a condition that affects older people; tragically, it can also affect children through rare genetic conditions such as Sanfilippo disease, often described as childhood dementia.

When Duncan heard the story of a young girl who was diagnosed and learned more about the devastating impact of childhood dementia, he felt inspired to take action. Drawing on his own experience of living with dementia, Duncan is determined to raise awareness, support vital research, and help bring hope to children and families facing these life-changing conditions.

Please join Duncan, his family, and friends for a fundraising hike in support of this much-needed cause. Every donation, every conversation, and every person who takes part can help fund research, improve access to treatments, and push for better outcomes for children affected by childhood dementia.

What a great idea, unfortunately I am on holiday that day but hope it goes well. My mum has vascular dementia which is horrible disease but obviously more cruel in anyone young. Well done for organising.
