I'm fundraising for...
In April next year, a group of girlfriends and I will be walking 117 km along the Camino de Santiago in Spain.
It will be an incredible adventure, full of beautiful scenery, good food, plenty of laughs (and I'm sure a few sore feet!).
But we're also using the opportunity to support a cause that's very close to my heart.
One of my good friends is the CEO of the Childhood Dementia Initiative, and her two beautiful children, Isla and Jude, are living with Sanfilippo syndrome, a form of childhood dementia.
Before I met their family, I had no idea childhood dementia even existed.
Like most people, I associated dementia with old age. The reality is that thousands of children are living with progressive conditions that steal their memories, skills and independence, yet childhood dementia receives only a fraction of the research funding given to diseases with a similar impact.
I feel incredibly fortunate to be healthy enough to take on this walk with friends. If every kilometre can also help raise awareness and funding for children like Isla and Jude, then that's an even better reason to do it.
If you'd like to support us, I'd be so grateful for a donation, big or small. And if donating isn't possible, sharing this post helps spread awareness of a disease that far too few people know about.
Thank you for coming along on the journey. xx
